As part of our expansion, we are looking to hire an experienced Academic Publishing Consultant for a remote, project-based consultancy role.


Role Overview

As an Academic Publishing Consultant, you will be responsible for assisting our clients with identifying suitable journals for their manuscripts. You will consider manuscript scope, indexing requirements, and author preferences to help researchers navigate the publication process smoothly. This consultancy role will be highly flexible and project-based, offering the opportunity to work on diverse and impactful research projects across multiple disciplines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Journal Identification: Analyze manuscripts to recommend the most suitable journals based on their subject matter, scope, indexing needs, and author preferences.
  • Submission Guidance: Provide authors with expert advice on the submission process, including manuscript formatting, peer review, and editorial expectations.
  • Indexing Consultation: Advise authors on journal indexing requirements (e.g., Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, etc.) and ensure the selected journals meet these criteria.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with researchers, authors, and internal teams to deliver high-quality, timely consultancy services.
  • Up-to-date Knowledge: Stay informed on the latest trends in academic publishing, journal impact factors, open access policies, and publishing ethics.

Qualifications & Skills

Educational Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Science, Engineering, Medicine, Social Sciences, or Humanities).
  • Additional certification or training in academic publishing, research communication, or library/information science is highly desirable.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 2–3 years experience in academic publishing or editorial consultancy, particularly in journal selection and manuscript submission processes.
  • Familiarity with manuscript submission systems (e.g., ScholarOne, Editorial Manager, Open Journal System etc.) and the peer review process.
  • Demonstrated expertise in journal selection across various fields, including knowledge of impact factors, citation metrics, and open access options.

Technical & Analytical Skills

  • Proficient in using reference management tools (e.g., EndNote, Mendeley, Zotero).
  • In-depth knowledge of indexing databases (e.g., Scopus, Web of Science, PubMed, DOAJ).
  • Familiarity with journal ranking systems (e.g., Impact Factor, CiteScore, SNIP).
  • Ability to assess the scope and relevance of journals in line with manuscript requirements.

Soft Skills

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote, project-based environment.
  • Knowledge of current trends and challenges in academic publishing.

Compensation

This is a project-based consultancy role with compensation mutually agreed upon based on the project scope, complexity, and timeline. We offer competitive rates and ensure that our consultants are compensated according to the quality and scale of the work involved.


Mode of Selection:

  • Initial Interview: To assess your experience, background, and approach to secondary data collection and literature review.
  • Technical Assignment: A practical assignment to evaluate your research and data collection skills.

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. Those who clear the interview stage will be given a technical assignment as the final step in the selection process.
